Keep your Pilates going throughout your holidays

Have you got time off this summer? Going Away?

Whilst it is important to step out of our regular routine in order to properly wind down, switch off and rejuvenate, it can leave us feeling physically sluggish, stiff and makes for really hard work upon our return to normality.

Why not consider some gentle (or not so gentle) Pilates for a few minutes each day to keep those muscles alert, avoid stiffness and maintain mobility, even being Pilates aware throughout your day can help, see below for some top tips……

HOW??

  • 😂😂😂😂😂. or maybe something a little more......Devon!

  • Pilates can be done anywhere: In your room, on your beach towel , on the beach, up a mountain or even standing - 💡 think about all those standing balance exercises/ standing swimming/ leg circles….

  • Make it mini - just 10 mins max at the start or end of the day and especially after a long journey/ flight/ drive etc. Stiffness and tiredness can all be alleviated. 💡 Hip rolls on your back, roll downs, single leg stretch……

  • Consider a loop band or theraband (the longer ones) in your luggage - you won’t notice the space but your body will notice the resistance if you use it! 💡 standing squats with a band, lunges, arm work

Consider Pilates and your Core throughout the day not just on your mat.

💡 For example, lifting luggage/ pushing airport trolley’s - engage your core before you lift in order to protect your back.

💡 Walk tall and keep those shoulder blades away from your ears

💡 It’s amazing how correcting your posture can make you not only feel slimmer but also look slimmer in your swimwear. Think - tall spines, core drawn in, foot arches lifted, piece of thread lifting your head, shoulder blades down your back…….

💡 Sit tall whilst eating - its elegant and looks more attractive too.

💡 Get up and walk/ swim etc regularly if on a sun lounger/ hammock - change position - avoid stiffness.

💡 Reading a book on your front whilst tanning your rear?! Add some front lying pilates exercises in at the same time to strengthen your back core muscles. Single leg kick…… cobra…….

Happy Holidays: Relax and enjoy xx
